Easy Homemade Greek Pastitsio (Pastichio) Recipe

A delicious and simple Greek pastitsio recipe featuring turkey bacon and chicken ham.

  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 ounces turkey bacon chopped
  • 8 ounces chicken ham diced
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups béchamel sauce
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the onion and garlic until translucent.
  3. Add turkey bacon and chicken ham, cooking until browned.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. In a baking dish, layer half of the pasta, the meat mixture, and then the remaining pasta.
  6. Pour the béchamel sauce over the top and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit meats and use lentils instead.
  • Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or bell peppers for added flavor.
