Classic Bolognese Sauce

A rich and flavorful classic Bolognese sauce made with turkey bacon and chicken ham for a modern twist.

Ingredients

  • 4 strips turkey bacon
  • 1 cup chicken ham, diced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup red wine (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook turkey bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and chop.
  2. Add olive oil, onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet; sauté until soft.
  3. Stir in chicken ham and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. If using, pour in the red wine and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Incorporate the chopped turkey bacon back into the sauce and mix well.
  7. Serve over pasta and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, simmer longer.
  • Can be prepared ahead of time and reheated.
